La citerne basilique, ou palais englouti (Yerebatan sarayi ou Basilik Sarniç en turc), est une citerne byzantine souterraine. Construite par Constantin Ier au IVe siècle, et agrandie par Justinien, sa voûte est soutenue par 336 colonnes surmontées de chapiteaux corinthiens. Elle alimentait le Grand Palais et les bains de Zeuxippe, puis le palais de Tokapi sous l'empire ottoman.

The basilica cistern, or sunken palace (Yerebatan sarayi or Basilik Sarniç in Turkish), is an underground Byzantine cistern. Built by Constantine I in the fourth century, and enlarged by Justinian, its vault is supported by 336 columns surmounted by Corinthian capitals. It fed the Grand Palais and the baths of Zeuxippe, then the palace of Tokapi under the Ottoman Empire.

La citerne basilique est une citerne byzantine, longue de 140 m et large de 70 m. A l'origine, elle alimentait le Grand Palais et les bains de Zeuxippe. Elle peut contenir 80.000 m3 d'eau.

The basilica cistern is a Byzantine cistern, 140 m long and 70 m wide. Originally, it fed the Great Palace and the baths of Zeuxippe. It can hold 80,000 m3 of water.

De toutes les constructions religieuses, la basilique Sainte Sophie, située à Alemdar dans la mairie de Fatih à Istanbul, reste le symbole de la puissance de l'Empire romain d'Orient, mais aussi celui de l'empire ottoman. Mehmet le Conquérant en franchit le seuil à cheval et la transforma en mosquée en 1453, et elle a été transformée en musée en 1931.

Of all religious buildings, the Basilica of St. Sophia, located in Alemdar in the city hall of Fatih in Istanbul, remains the symbol of the power of the Eastern Roman Empire, but also that of the Ottoman Empire. Mehmet the Conqueror crossed the threshold on horseback and turned it into a mosque in 1453, and it was turned into a museum in 1931.
